Calling all Girl Scouts! Get ready to build, test, and explore as you take on a hands-on engineering challenge at the Long Island Explorium.

In Hurricane Towers, Girl Scouts will explore the science and force of hurricanes while learning how engineers design buildings to withstand extreme weather. Participants will design and build a hurricane-resistant structure, then put their creation to the test against wind and rain.

Badge Information: This program is designed to support Girl Scouts in working toward their STEM badges. Troop leaders are responsible for confirming badge requirements and determining completion. Badges are not provided by the Long Island Explorium.

👥 Supervision & Participation

  • Every participating Girl Scout must be supervised by a parent, guardian, or troop leader.
  • One troop leader may supervise participating Girl Scouts from the troop.
  • A maximum of one adult may attend per participating Girl Scout.
  • Girl Scouts may participate with their troop or on their own with an accompanying adult.

📋 Workshop Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made 5 business days prior to the start of the workshop to receive a one-time credit for future bookings or registrations. No refunds will be provided. No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations made less than 5 business days prior to the start of the workshop. All workshops will run, subject to a minimum number of participants reached.

Program dates/times are subject to change. Enrollment minimums must be met in order for the program to run. In the event that program minimums are not met, participants will be given the option for full refund, credit, or enrollment in rescheduled events.

Girl Scouts will explore hurricane science and engineering as they design, build, and test a structure made to withstand extreme weather. This 90-minute hands-on workshop supports Daisy and Brownie badge work and STEM career exploration. $18 per Girl Scout. Registration is limited to 18 participants.
